Baghdad pact and Unified Military

The Baghdad Pact, the Central Treaty Organization (CENTO), was a military alliance formed in 1955 by Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Turkey, and the United Kingdom. Its primary goal was to contain the Soviet Union by establishing a line of strong states along its southwestern frontier.
In 1958, the United States joined the military committee of the alliance.
