SCRIPTURE READING FOR TODAY
Gen 28:16-22

16 Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I wasn’t even aware of it!”
17 But he was also afraid and said, “What an awesome place this is! It is none other than the house of God, the very gateway to heaven!”
18 The next morning Jacob got up very early. He took the stone he had rested his head against, and he set it upright as a memorial pillar. Then he poured olive oil over it.
19 He named that place Bethel (which means “house of God”), although it was previously called Luz.
20 Then Jacob made this vow: “If God will indeed be with me and protect me on this journey, and if he will provide me with food and clothing,
21 and if I return safely to my father’s home, then the LORD will certainly be my God.
22 And this memorial pillar I have set up will become a place for worshiping God, and I will present to God a tenth of everything he gives me.”

The Word of God To Meditate On Today
Gen 28:21-22 The Elements Of Jacob's Vow
This is the account of Jacob's first interaction with the God of his fathers. Like every first, there are misgivings and ambiguity, he was amazed by the dream and God's voice, secondly he didn't know about the place where he was. Jacob was well schooled in the tradition of his fathers as he had with him anointing oil, with which he anointed the stone, which he later referred to as the Stone of Israel in Gen 49:24. Observe the element of his covenant with God: 1) If I return safely to my father's home: a) then the Lord shall be my God; b) ...this memorial pillar I have set up will become a place for worshiping God, and 3) I will present to God a tenth of everything he gives me.” This was his vow to God, which were all performed. May you receive the grace for a covenant walk with God in Jesus' name!

Father, grant me the grace for absolute obedience to You for my part of the covenant with You in Jesus' name

21 may he equip you with all you need for doing his will. May he produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him. All glory to him forever and ever! Amen.

Because I dwell in the secret place of the most High, I Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: My God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver me from the snare of the fowler, And from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover me with his feathers, And under his wings shalt I trust: His truth shall be my shield and buckler. I shall not be afraid for the terror by night; Nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walks in darkness; Nor for the destruction that wastes at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, And ten thousand at thy right hand; But it shall not come nigh thee throughout this week in Jesus' name!

Only with my eyes shalt I behold And see the wicked receive their rewards. Because I have made the LORD, my refuge, Even the most High, my habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, Neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For God shall give his angels charge over thee, To keep thee in all my ways. They shall bear me up in their hands, Lest I dash thy foot against a stone. I shall tread upon the lion and adder: The young lion and the dragon shalt I trample under feet. Because I have set my love upon God, therefore will He deliver me: He will set him on high, because I have known His name. I shall call upon Him, and He will answer me: He will be with me in trouble; He will deliver me, and honour me. With long life will God satisfy me, And shew me His salvation. So shall it be for me and my household throughout this week in Jesus' name!
