For the last several years, we did not have a functional 1st Amendment in the USA

Kevin Kiley: Today's Judiciary Committee Hearing made one thing very clear. For the last several years, we did not have a functional First Amendment in this country.

The Biden Administration mobilized the federal government to censor Americans at a scale our Founders could never have imagined.

Our oversight on the Judiciary Committee helped dismantle this censorship regime. Even Mark Zuckerberg, in a letter to the committee, apologized for giving in to the Biden Administration's demands and promised not to censor going forward.

Freedom of speech is historically rare. America's commitment to it is one reason we became the greatest country in the world. That's why it is so jarring that these last few years we came perilously close to censorship becoming a new norm.

It is now essential to create guardrails to prevent abuses like this from ever happening again.
