D.C. (Dist. of Criminals), February 12, 2025 — President Donald J. Trump announced that he and Russian President Vladimir Putin are set to meet in Saudi Arabia for direct negotiations on ending the Ukraine war, a major diplomatic shift that bypasses the traditional NATO-led process.

The announcement follows a surprise 90-minute phone call between Trump and Putin, marking their first confirmed contact since Trump’s return to office. Trump emphasized that Ukraine will not be left out of the talks, but acknowledged that certain demands—such as Kyiv’s pre-2014 borders and NATO membership—are unrealistic.

Trump: ‘We Want to Stop the Millions of Deaths’
Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump described the call as "lengthy and highly productive," stating that both leaders agreed to work closely together and have their respective teams begin negotiations immediately.

"We want to stop the millions of deaths taking place in the War with Russia/Ukraine," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The Kremlin confirmed that Putin invited Trump to Moscow, while Trump revealed that he expects Putin to visit the U.S. as well.

Saudi Crown Prince to Play Key Role in Talks
The first meeting is expected to take place in Saudi Arabia, with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman—who recently facilitated a U.S.-Russia prisoner exchange—playing a key role in the negotiations.

Trump later called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, assuring him that he was not being excluded. After the call, Trump stated that “Like President Putin, Zelensky wants to make peace.”

However, Trump’s direct diplomacy with Russia has sparked concerns in Ukraine and Europe, with Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth calling Ukraine’s hope of regaining its pre-2014 borders an ‘illusionary goal’ and its NATO membership bid ‘not realistic.’

Trump’s ‘America First’ Approach to Ukraine Aid
Trump has suggested that a deal involving Ukraine’s rare earth minerals could be part of any continued U.S. support. Meanwhile, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance are set to meet with Zelensky in Munich to discuss security guarantees as part of a broader peace framework.

The Kremlin signaled openness to negotiations but insisted that peace talks must address the ‘root causes’ of the conflict, placing blame on Western interference in Kyiv.

A Pragmatic Shift Toward Resolution
Trump’s America First approach has prioritized pragmatic solutions over prolonged conflict, in contrast to years of blank-check funding under past administrations. His direct engagement with Putin signals a dramatic shift in U.S. foreign policy, emphasizing realpolitik and deal-making over ideological posturing.

With the Saudi summit on the horizon, Trump appears determined to achieve what no Western leader has been able to accomplish—negotiating an end to the war through direct engagement rather than proxy escalation.
