On February 5, 2025, at approximately 3:32 PM, officers from the Waterbury Police Department's Auto Theft Task Force (ATTF), Vice and Intelligence Unit, and the Connecticut Violent Crime Task Force were conducting patrols along Willow Street and Hillside Avenue. During this time, officers observed a 2007 Honda Accord-reported stolen from Bridgeport, CT (earlier that morning) - parked in the lot at 120 Hillside Avenue. The vehicle was occupied by two individuals, later identified as Daniel Baker, 42, of Naugatuck, CT, and Janete Olivencia, 38, of Waterbury, CT. When officers attempted to initiate a motor vehicle stop, Baker tried to flee and collided the stolen vehicle with a police cruiser and a brick wall.

Although Baker attempted to elude officers, he was ultimately apprehended at the scene. Following the incident Baker was transported to a local hospital due to a laceration to his face. Olivencia was arrested without incident. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers seized Drug Paraphernalia.
