The lateral raise machine is alright. This adjustment makes it a lot better. My clients and I feel the deltoids working better when using this set up. Scooting the humerus behind the pads allows for easier range of motion and no issue wirh reducing tension with the point of contact being on your humerus (due to moment arm length shortened, which is the length between the point of contact on the pad and the origin of the muscle that's primarily moving the weight).
