Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear Serves Up A Heaping Helping Of Hypocrisy

Posted • February 11, 2025: I have never seen a political party in such disarray as the Democratic Party. The chaos is entirely self-inflicted, and I hope it continues. But as an exercise in logic and political strategy, it's astonishing to watch unfold. Previously, I noted that President Donald Trump had the best political enemies a few days ago. By 'best,' I mean they're incapable of learning from their mistakes, continue doubling down on those mistakes, and resort to straight-up lying about Trump to try and damage him. Regarding the latter, that sort of thing has stopped working. 70% of poll respondents say Trump is keeping his campaign promises, while Democrats enjoy an abysmal 31% approval rating with voters. Yet Democrats keep doing it. Today, it's Kentucky governor Andy Beshear's turn to lie to protect the regime.

Beshear: “If they eliminated the Department of Education and its funding, that’s a half billion dollars in meals for our kids that otherwise might go hungry. So, if Elon Musk and Donald Trump do what they say they’re doing, the result are hungry children.” -- I don't expect Al Sharpton to correct him because he's Al Sharpton. So, I'll set the record straight on this. First and foremost, the Department of Education does not administer school lunch funding. Why doesn't Beshear know this? It could be because he's grossly ignorant, but I have degrees in English and Nursing. It took about three seconds to search Google to find this out. Here's what else I found: The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) -- the program that provides free or low-cost lunches to students -- was established in 1946. For the mathematically challenged, that's 33 years before the Department of Education came into being.”

“The NSLP is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and state or local governments. Shuttering the DOE would have no impact on the NSLP. But I also wondered where Beshear was three years ago when the Biden-Harris administration vowed to withhold school lunch funding from any school that didn't bend the knee on trans ideology. Here's what Heritage wrote at the time: “The U.S. Department of Agriculture has recently announced that it, too, will interpret the prohibition on discrimination based on 'sex' found in Title IX to include 'sexual orientation and gender identity.' Except it goes further: It will also expand the 'sex' discrimination definition found in the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 amended by the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (formerly the food stamp program) in precisely the same way. Why does that matter? Because it holds food for needy children hostage to the transgender agenda.”

“In a memorandum from May, the USDA directed all state agencies and Food and Nutrition Act program operators to 'expeditiously review their program discrimination complaint procedures and make any changes necessary to ensure complaints alleging discrimination on the basis of gender identity and sexual orientation are processed and evaluated as complaints of discrimination on the basis of sex.'” -- In that memorandum, the USDA noted there would be 'no grace period' when accepting and processing discrimination complaints, putting funding for some 100,000 schools at risk for losing funding. That's a lot of children who would go hungry. Standing up on behalf of children seems like a no-brainer for guys like Beshear, no? He's so certain kids will starve if Donald Trump and Elon Musk end the DOE he went on MSNBC to raise the alarm for all twelve of their viewers.

But searching both of Beshear's X accounts (@govandybeshear and @andybeshearKY) with the term 'lunches' yielded precisely zero results. There weren't breathless interviews with Al Sharpton, no forceful statements faking concern about starving school children. Beshear couldn't even be bothered to post about it. I suppose it's okay to make kids go hungry if it's for the (politically) correct reasons, huh?
