Video shows Alaska Airlines flight attendant strike and restrain passenger

On February 1, 2025, Alaska Airlines Flight 2221, scheduled to depart from Oakland, California, to Portland, Oregon, was disrupted by a male passenger experiencing a "violent medical episode." Before takeoff, the passenger assaulted others on board, notably grabbing a woman's hair and refusing to release her. A flight attendant intervened, striking the man to free the woman and calling for additional assistance from other passengers.

Following the altercation, the aircraft returned to the gate, where law enforcement apprehended the disruptive passenger. Due to the incident, the flight was canceled, and Alaska Airlines announced that the individual has been banned from future flights with both Alaska and Horizon Air.
