Detonated!
----------------------
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is a 2014 action puzzle video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Wii U. The game was re-released for the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS in 2018. It is a spin-off of the Super Mario series that is based on a series of levels from the 2013 game Super Mario 3D World. The game stars Captain Toad and Toadette as they complete levels and save themselves from the antagonist Wingo.
----------------------
Each level is contained within a miniature diorama-like environment that requires solving puzzles and platforming challenges to complete. The player also uses the Wii U GamePad to rotate the camera and reveal new information and interact with the environment. The Wii U version featured only single player, but the Nintendo Switch version included cooperative multiplayer. The game included amiibo support, and the Nintendo Switch version received paid downloadable content and extra levels themed after Super Mario Odyssey.
----------------------
Captain Toad's levels in 3D World began as a prototype concept that was included as secondary levels in the final product. Captain Toad was chosen as the main character because his large backpack would justify the lack of jump controls. The developers had wanted to turn the concept into a full game since early in the development of 3D World, and at the request of Shigeru Miyamoto, development began after the completion of 3D World. Jumping as an action was made for additional gameplay variation, and bonus challenges and collectibles were added to help with the difficulty. The goal during development was to make the game enjoyable for the widest possible audience and to help normalize the use of camera controls in video games.
----------------------
Treasure Tracker was announced at E3 2014, with a release date of November 14 in Japan, December 5 in North America, and the following January 2 in Europe. All versions received generally favorable reviews, being praised for their graphics and concept, but criticized for their camera control and never fully living up to their gimmick. The 3DS and Switch versions were praised for their utilization of the hardware, although the multiplayer was considered lackluster. The Wii U and Nintendo Switch versions have sold over 1 million copies individually, making it one of the best-selling games on both consoles.
