The island nation of Mauritius is home to a captivating optical illusion known as an underwater waterfall. Located near Le Morne Brabant, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the illusion appears to be a cascade beneath the ocean's surface. The movement of sand and silt creates this due to the change in depth along the edge of the reef. The site of the illusion has significant cultural and historical significance as Le Morne Brabant was a refuge for escaped slaves in the 18th and early 19th centuries. Today, the area is a popular destination for eco-tourism, with visitors able to appreciate the underwater waterfall illusion through helicopter tours, drone photography, boat excursions, and snorkeling. The Le Morne Heritage Trust Fund exists to protect the region's historical and natural landmarks.
