Two winter storms are set to hit the U.S. this week, bringing snow, freezing rain, and Arctic cold to parts of the country.

Around 29 million people were under winter alerts across the central Plains, Midwest, Ohio Valley, and mid-Atlantic.

The first storm will bring snow and ice from the central Plains to the mid-Atlantic, with up to 6 inches of snow in cities like Washington, D.C., and Baltimore.

The storm will also bring heavy rain to the South and possible flooding in parts of the southern Plains. Arctic temperatures will bring life-threatening wind chills to the northern Rockies and Plains.

The second storm will produce heavy snow from Kansas to Michigan, with significant impacts expected in cities like Chicago and Detroit, NBC News has reported.

The storms come after a major winter event this weekend that caused travel disruptions and flight delays.
