Man arrested for stabbing people at random in Dublin.
According to initial reports from Visegrád 24, a South American man was the one who stabbed the four people.
This Sunday, in the Stoneybatter district of Dublin, four people were stabbed in different locations. The victims suffered injuries that are not life-threatening.
The attacker, a man whose identity has not been revealed, was arrested by the Garda Síochána, the Irish police. The authorities rule out terrorist links and believe that the attacks were random.
According to initial reports from Visegrád 24, the four were stabbed at random in different places by a man who emigrated to Ireland from South America.
According to witnesses, the attacker used household utensils to commit the attacks. One of the victims was stabbed in the entrance of his house upon returning.
The suspect was arrested near Manor Place, and the area remains cordoned off. Police have said there is no ongoing risk to the public.
The Stoneybatter neighbourhood, known for its community atmosphere and proximity to Dublin city centre, is in shock following the incident.
Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald said on social media: "Terrible news from Stoneybatter this afternoon. My thoughts are with the injured and their families.
The community is in shock. The Garda and emergency services are to be commended for their response."
Police are continuing to investigate the motive behind the attacks and have urged anyone with information or footage of the incident to come forward. The involvement of other suspects has been ruled out, and authorities are interviewing local residents to gather more details.
This comes amid concerns about security in Dublin, following a similar incident in November 2023, when several people were stabbed in Parnell Square. Five people were injured on that occasion, including three children, and the attack sparked subsequent riots in the city.
Authorities have stepped up police presence in key areas of the city to ensure the safety of citizens and prevent future incidents.
