Understanding the Mustard Seed

Throughout the gospels Yeshua makes reference to the mustard seed. The idea of the seed is presented in two distinct ways and very different ways. The first is that the mustard seed is a reference to the kingdom in the it begins extraordinarily small but then grow very large. It grows large enough t be a home for birds and shelter for animals.

The second is given as a reference to faith. Indicating that if you have faith like a mustard seed then you will command the mountain to move, and it will move for you.

Many have taken this and tried to apply the size reference to the seed as a kingdom and make it a comparison to the size of your faith, and that is not what Messiah is communicating. Size means nothing to faith. Rather than looking at the size of the seed as the indicator for its strength you should look more carefully at what is within... you should ask; "What kind of faith does a mustard seed have?" That is where the lesson of seed like faith truly begins. Like a little seed you can't do anything on your own. The seed can't plant or water itself, it is completely dependent on God for everything, that is the kind of faith we should have.
