Voices of a Distant Star

Voices of a Distant Star is a 2002 Japanese sci-fi anime short film written, directed, and animated by Makoto Shinkai. It tells the story of two lovers separated by space and time as one is sent on a deep-space mission to fight an alien threat while the other remains on Earth. They communicate through text messages, but as the distance grows, the messages take years to arrive, creating a heartbreaking tale of love, longing, and isolation.
