A Secret Rapture? The Doctrine of Escapism

My personal belief is that the secret rapture theology is a great distraction from the works that Christ has called us to do, and causes us to turn a blind eye to the works of satan in this world. The idea is cherry picked from 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 but falls completely off its hinges when examined closely and compared with other scriptures related. Biblical Hermeneutics must be applied. The fourth chapter of 1 Thessalonians is talking about the second coming of Christ, not about a doctrine of escapism.
