It's been a minute! Glad to be putting together our first video of 2025!

In this video, we dive into seed viability, which describes how long seeds can be expected to still produce seedlings. It gives the gardener estimates on how long their seeds will last. It's an important topic for managing seed collections over many years of gardening!

It took us quite a few years of gardening to realize how important this topic really was. These days, we heavily manage our seed collection based on these viability estimates, while also trying to maximize the value we get out of our seed bank. Since we've navigated the value front, we also offer tips on getting the most value from your seeds and without experiencing massive germination failures.

We also discuss the various influences on seed viability and what is important to pay attention when it comes to seed storage. While there's probably more that could be said about seed viability, we tried to be relatively complete and concise in our discussion.

We are glad to be producing videos again. We took a little break to think about the direction of our channel. Youtube doesn't offer us a curated audience of far northern growers, so we had to make some decisions about what the future of this channel will be. The good news is we are continuing with the channel. But, we've decided to really dig into our mission and focus entirely on extreme northern gardening. But, that doesn't mean we can't also provide a balance of perennial gardening related content.
