Woman charged in baby's death

A 22-year-old Shawano woman is charged with neglect in connection with the death of her 2-month-old child. The criminal charge paperwork in this case is nearly 40 pages long. Court paperwork says that police were called to a home on the 300 block of west 5th street in Shawano last Friday afternoon. Police found a 2-month-old baby upstairs, dead in a small bassinet. The suspect 22-year-old Catherine Barker. Court paperwork says she told investigators that her son's blanket must have suffocated him and that he'd been sick, and she gave him medicine. According to the criminal complaint, barker told police she performed CPR on the child, but didn’t call 911. Court paperwork says she told someone that her son was dead, she planned to bury him out in the country, then move away. Court paperwork says the little boy's grandfather was home when police first arrived, and he had no idea that his grandson had died.
