MUTINOUS IDF Splits Leave Israel Flailing!

Right, so concerns rumble amongst the Israeli Defence Forces over Donald Trump’s ridiculous plan to relocate the entire population of the Gaza Strip, but voicing concerns is not allowed apparently, because Benjamin Netanyahu’s deranged defence minister Israel Katz will not tolerate it apparently, so much so that Katz has ordered the reprimand of one officer, simply for pointing out the obvious issues with such a barbaric act of ethnic cleansing.
The Israeli army are not allowed to speak out, have well founded concerns as to why Trumps plan won’t work that are not being listened to, face punishment if they dare to voice them and matters for Israel can only worsen if Israel push ahead with this insanity, which, along with a promise to end the ceasefire, is now all that is keeping Benjamin Netanyahu in power. For all of the issues Israel face from outside actors, the massive problems they now face within their army ranks, may be the next powder keg about to go off, especially if insane individuals like Israel Katz keep throwing their weight around pursuing utter madness.
Right, so don’t tell me the IDF have found a pang of conscience here Damo? You might be thinking and rest assured, no, the most immoral army in the world still appears to be untroubled by such notions, their concerns stem from a sense of self preservation, for which they have been punished, but also from a logistical sense too, because as I covered the other day, the IDF have been ordered to draw up plans to make Donald Trump’s crackpot plan to ethnically cleanse the whole of the Gaza Strip into a reality by the truly repugnant Israel Katz, Israel’s defence minister.
The biggest issue with carrying out this order however, is that it is fundamentally impossible to do. There are two major issues which have not been overcome here, purely from a logistical position – the people of Gaza do not want to leave on one hand and on the other, there is nowhere to move them to, because no other nation will accept them.
Trump can keep repeating that Egypt and Jordan will take them when both countries have made it clear that is not happening, others like Katz himself have said the likes of Spain and Ireland should take them, because they’d hypocrites for demanding Israel cease its genocide when this is only answer Israel will accept, Netanyahu can suggest Saudi Arabia take them, but that is a busted flush as well but ultimately it changes absolutely nothing, a lot of the Gazan people will not leave – I won’t say none would, I’m sure at this some would and who could blame them for wanting to get away from what they’ve been living through – but equally there is nowhere to send them to, so the IDF cannot come up with a plan of action for this other than work out the feasibility of transporting people a short or a long distance to please Katz, planning that would still be a complete waste of time. You’re not allowed to tell Katz that though.
Someone who deigned to inform Katz of the unworkability of Trump’s plan was the head of Israel’s Military Intelligence Directorate, Maj, Gen. Shlomi Binder, a very high ranking individual.
During a military assessment meeting Binder made the mistake of pointing out that there were certain security risks associated with trump’s plan, ie the Arab world would come down on Israel like a ton if bricks if they tried to displace the entire Gazan population.
Katz, went mad. He ordered IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi to read Binder the riot act for his claims and all despite Binder apparently clarifying to Katz that he didn’t take a position on whether he liked the plan or not, just that it was his job to point out the very simple fact that ethnically cleansing the entire Gaza Strip of the people of all the Palestinians and handing it over to Donald Trump as a real estate venture might upset their enemies a bit and see an escalation in conflict. This might perhaps be a bit of an understatement. This excerpt from the Times of Israel covers what happened next:
‘On Thursday evening Channel 13 news reported that during a closed military assessment of Trump’s plan to move Gazans out of the Strip for it to be rebuilt — an idea overwhelmingly rejected by Palestinians and the Arab world –Binder warned of potential enemy violence, including an escalation in the West Bank, resulting from the discussion of Trump’s plan. According to the report, Binder warned specifically about the upcoming holy Muslim month of Ramadan, which tends to be a volatile time of year.
The report noted that Binder did not express any sentiment for or against Trump’s plan, but rather only warned about the potential violent consequences of the discourse and urged preparations for such a scenario.
Katz apparently viewed matters differently.
“There will be no reality in which IDF officers speak out against US President Trump’s important plan regarding Gaza, and against the directives of the political echelon,” Katz said in a statement.
“I ordered the IDF to prepare to advance the plan for the voluntary departure of Gaza residents who would be interested in leaving to various places in the world, and that is exactly what the IDF is required to do and will do,” the defence minister added, even though the military hasn’t been reported to be pushing back against that instruction.’
Yeah, speak out against the Trump plan if you dare is Katz’s position, I don’t want to hear it, la la la I’m not listening do as your told, make it so, he really is an obnoxiously delusional little man and its not even the first time he’s clashed with the IDF already.
You see, apart from ordering them to draw up feasibility plans to commit mass ethnic cleansing, another inquiry into the events of the night of October 7th is currently being conducted by the State Comptroller – basically an auditor if you like – specifically into the Israeli failures of that night that allowed Hamas to do what they did.
The IDF perhaps unsurprisingly, has been very resistant to this investigation, they really don’t want people to know what they did that night, or didn’t as the case may be. The comptroller, Matanyahu Englman, has accused the IDF and their chief of staff Herzi Halevi, of intimidation of senior IDF officers giving testimony within the framework of his investigation into all the failures of that night. Englman has made the claims that the IDF had clandestinely recorded interviews with officers and had been briefing them beforehand on how to answer questions, measures he claims were designed to obscure the truth coming out.
Now Benjamin Netanyahu is denying any such investigation is going on, he has rejected the existence of the enquiry along with most of his government, but crucially, not Israel Katz who yesterday ordered Halevi to co-operate fully with the investigation, putting the relationship between the IDF and Katz even more under strain, but also puts Katz at odds with Netanyahu and you have to wonder in which case what Katz’s endgame is. Is it purely beef with the IDF and Netanyahu’s attitude towards the investigation that puts Katz and Netanyahu at odds, or is Katz’s determination to see Trumps plan enacted along with the hard right of the government that emboldens Katz to possibly clash with his boss? The two issues together seem to indicate that Katz knows where the power is and it isn’t with Netanyahu any more, but as long as he backs Trump’s plan, the likes of Smotrich won’t cause him any grief over this investigation.
It will be fascinating to see what this investigation ends up producing and if it will add more fuel to the fire of Israel allowing Hamas to seize hostages as a precursor to the genocide that has followed, certainly it will reflect badly on Netanyahu if so and his predecessor Yoav Gallant who has now admitted that the Hannibal Directive was used on that night, IDF soldiers therefore targeting their own people, the preference being to kill them rather than allow them to be taken hostage. Katz wasn’t defence minister, so maybe he sees himself as safe regardless of the findings of this investigation, but he was the energy minister at the time, he was the one bragging about shutting off water and electricity to Gaza, so was still part of this government and this genocide and if collective responsibility means anything, he will hardly come out of a legitimate investigation looking like an innocent bystander in all of this.
Nevertheless, the friction between Katz and the IDF is growing. Katz has also refused to sign off on any promotions to the rank of major general until the Comptrollers report was complete and had been handed to him.
Ah, so he gets the report does he? So not likely to see the light of day then, but provides ample ammo against people in the IDF and government potentially to leak should he wish to I daresay.
The IDF are not staying quiet however and in a sign of even more bad blood emerging between them and their ministerial boss, they’ve taken a swipe at Katz for going to the media and making public so much of what has gone on between them, from the dressing down of Shlomi Binder, to leaning on Herzi Halevi and blocking promotions, not just now, but going back to December of last year too, when Katz blew up a meeting where another 60 colonels and a brigadier general were due to be appointed. The gist of the IDF warning to Katz is that they are co-operating with the Comptroller and that his unnecessary intrusions were a distraction and that with the current fighting continuing, distractions cost lives.
Following that statement, Katz, via a spokesman, went for our old ‘friend’ Mr Pointy, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, the IDF spokesman, for exceeding his authority and preaching morality in a recent statement, despite the statement having been approved by his boss Halevi.
There is so much tit for tat attacking going on between the IDF and Katz, you wonder how much its going to take for the IDF to essentially go AWOL, to down tools, go on strike, refuse to fight, especially if he pushes them too much further? As for that report of the Comptroller, will that be blackmail material as I mused a moment ago? Won’t help matters at all will it?
The IDF are not a happy bunch and whilst few will sympathise with them for that, divisions in the Israeli ranks offer hope to others on the receiving end of their atrocity, from Gaza to the West Bank and Southern Lebanon still as well.
Meanwhile of course, Katz’s predecessor has admitted to what so many of us have known for so long, that Israel were shooting their own people on the night of October 7th, that the Hannibal Directive was given, the need for an investigation independent of Israel entirely is now absolutely needed, but where are the calls for that to happen then?
