IT DOESN'T TAKE A GENIUS TO RIP OFF WALMART, BUT IT DOES TAKE A "GENIUS" WALMART EMPLOYEE TO CATCH HIM.

This guy wrapped a bar code around ring on his finger and then ripped off Walmart.

Nobody really knows how long Dylan Rockwell of Caldwell, Idaho had been doing this before he finally got caught. You see, it’s this way; Walmart, in a failed attempt to cut costs, laid off cashiers nationwide and installed self-help kiosks instead. Now granted, there’s usually an employee assigned to keep an eye on 10 or more kiosks in each lane. But hey, we know that’s not gonna cut it!

Since their installation of self-check kiosks, Walmart has experienced record losses. It’s not much of a stretch to blame those losses on this ‘self-service’ kiosk. It’s easy to say that hundreds of thousands of falsified checkouts happen every year costing Walmart [therefore Walmart’s customers] hundreds of millions of dollars annually. It is estimated that over 90% of scammers never get caught.

For example: ringing up vine tomatoes but keying in the code for Roma tomatoes. The difference is price is night and day with Romas costing 38 cents a pound and vine tomatoes costing $1.40 a pound. Right there you’ve got a savings of about 66 cents on the dollar.

From stuffing turkeys and other large meats in the bottom of the shopping cart, the chance of getting caught is slim as long as the shopper isn’t getting too greedy. A shopper can put $100 in meat, not scanned at all, and cover it with about $200 or $300 dollars in legitimate purchases. When you fill a shopping cart with so many items that the receipt is over 2 feet long, that employee observer will do nothing about it, especially since the dirty deed was done while he or she was looking away.

Security people call these customers “Whales” because they buy so much with each visit. Whales can get away with a lot … and they do. Rockwell was far from the traditional Whale when he idiotically tried to pay 70 cents for a $300 barbecue. Nope, his stretch was way too long and thin to succeed.

With a barcode wrapped around his ring he would just wave his hand across the glass sensor at the kiosk and whatever he had was ‘rung up’ for 70 cents. Well, there may be a sucker born every minute, but there’s a moron born every minute too. Hello Dylan Rockwell … Village Idiot!

Well, now one scam has come to light and will likely be watched for but for every scammer they catch, Walmart loses a hundred or more. I’ve witnessed people buying a lot of meat and scanning in questionable bar codes from their phone. I’m not a cop, and to point them out to store personnel would only bring me grief. Walmart has become a sinkhole for the flotsam and jetsam of society. Here’s a tip: Chicken is a lot cheaper than beef …. Get the idea?

Some economists say that if Walmart abandoned their kiosks and employed checkers, shrinkage would drop precipitously and customers would be a lot happier for it. By the way, such cost savings would allow Walmart to further ‘roll back’ prices.
