Generational Music

I’ve had a video go viral, twice, about a younger fella I worked with who didn’t know who Eddie Vedder is.

This may be worse.

Parenting is a tough gig.

You have to raise your kids right.

Instill values in them.

And, introduce them to the right kind of art.

Yes, they’re going to make their own bad choices—Cardi B. Wouldn’t have a career if kids had good taste—but it’s your job to introduce them to the right kind of art.

Classic movies.

Classic books.

And, of course, classical music.

You don’t even have to dive deep into Beethoven, or Chopin (but you should), there is a modern day genius among us, and his name is John Williams.

How many instantaneously recognizable pieces has he written?

Star Wars.

Indiana Jones.

Jurassic Park.

Harry Potter.

Jaws.

And, in the case of this video (short, reel, or what have you), Superman.

(My personal favorite. Seriously, set your alarm to that song and wake up to it. Start your day off right. It’s perfection.)

So, when a little punk doesn’t recognize greatness, it’s sad.

His parents failed him.

And, unless he turns things around on his own, he’ll fail at life.
