Altering the tempo of reps induces a different stimulus that can induce new adaptations. Studies show novel stimuli can induce better gains. This is best for hypertrophy and not strength gains. Is it best to do alternative tempos only, no doesn't seem like it. But it can help periodically which is why you want to periodize your workout programs.
