The Battle of Manila was fought between February 3 and March 3, 1945. To observe this anniversary, Tio Banana is composing ideas each day, in preparation for a piece of music to commemorate the Battle and those who served in the combat, endured the destruction, and lost their lives. Today's idea adds percussion and modifies the initial idea from February 3. February 5, 1945: "After more than thirty-six hours, the time had arrived to escort the remaining sixty-five Japanese out of Santo Tomas and officially conclude the standoff." (p. 186). "In the walled city of Intramuros, Japanese troops blocked exits on the afternoon of February 5, demanding that all residents report to the Manila Cathedral...." (p. 201). Excerpts from Rampage: MacArthur, Yamashita, and the Battle of Manila by James M. Scott (W. W. Norton & Company, 2018). "They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. One nation will not lift up a sword against another, nor will they ever again be trained for war."
