Georgia’s Political Power Play: the Fight for Governor

A sudden shift in Georgia politics has Speaker Jon Burns and Lt. Governor Burt Jones cozying up to President Trump, despite tensions and disagreements. Burns, who once resisted making election changes in Georgia, is now taking political capital from Trump’s influence, while Burt Jones is positioning himself for a run at the governor’s office. Burns and Jones, despite personal and political differences, are now in the spotlight together—though their relationship remains complicated, with separate charters to D.C. and conflicting ambitions.

Meanwhile, Burns is pushing the "Riley Gaines Act," which could further complicate Jones’ path to power.

All of a sudden everyone likes Donald Trump. And all of a sudden Speaker Jon Burns likes Donald Trump. And somehow he has found himself on the guest list at the White House. Someone on Trump’s staff keeps putting Jon Burns on the guest list. Burns didn’t like Trump enough to actually make the corrections necessary in the elections in GA. But now he will take the political capital all day long. Now Burt Jones and Jon Burns are sitting next to each other. They could sit for a picture but sources say they both flew on separate charters twice to DC.
In GA we have a governor's race and Burt Jones wants to be governor. Burt Jones put it out to people to not campaign until after the legislative session. Now the Speaker of the House and the Lt Governor don't carry legislation. They get someone to carry the bills. Greg Dolezal is the senator for Burt to carry SB1 to ban boys from girls sports. This transgender banning senate bill was worked on several years ago but it was held back for an opportune time. A couple of years ago when we wanted this bill we got the bill to give the authority to the GHSA to make a rule. The bill was not allowed to come up, now it was handed to Greg Dolezal for the Lt Gov Burt Jones so he could campaign on it that Burt Jones saved girls sports. Is it upsetting someone under the gold dome? This is politics. SB1 passed yesterday under a rushed vote.
Last year in May, the speaker banned Senator Colton Moore for his corruption of Speaker David Ralston. When they were honoring Speaker David Ralston in the house. These people don’t lose control and they will run you over for power. Now there was a joint session on Jan 16. It was bubbled up that Colton Moore would not be allowed on the House floor. Keith Williams throws Colton Moore to the ground. Colton Moore was arrested by the Capitol Police. Apparently the next day Burt JOnes goes into Jon Burns office and Burt JOnes makes a statement and it makes it sound like the set Jon Burns straight. Jon Burns didn’t take to that very well.
Riley Gaines wanted to put her name on SB1. The Senate said no. frontline and event and has Riley Gaines as lead speaker at their event. Jon Burns is also a speaker that night. A couple of years ago sources say that the senate bill to stop boys in girls sports, Burns said the bill would be dead on arrival. But now when President Trump signs it, and now when Burt Jones is running for governor, Jon Burns doesn’t want Burt JOnes as governor. Jon Burns puts out the bill HB267 as the Riley Gaines Act. Will Wade a co-sponsor of the bill. Will Wade has his own aspirations and grand illusions to be state senator. Will Wade is also governor Brian Kemp’s house floor leader. What that means is Brian Kemp sends word on what to carry for the governor. Will Wade signing on to this has several checkmarks. Brian Kemp and Marty Kemp may not even want Burt Jones to be the next governor. This could be a campaign issue for Burt. Kemp is working to work against Burt through the house bill HB267.

Chris Carr released a statement thanking Trump. Chris Carr settled a lawsuit that allows the state health care to pay for prison paying for transition surgery. Chris Carr is the top cop. AG can bring charges at any time.
AJC is trying to normalize MTG. MTG offered praise for Governor Kemp saying he would be a solid candidate against Jon Ossoff. Others looking at the Senate: Kemp, Greene, Buddy Carter, Mike Collins, John King, Brad Raffensperger.
BKP predicts Kemp is looking for someone to challenge Burt Jones. There are names that are being floated out. If the candidate would come forward they would have money behind them. Remember when Kemp retweeted a Chris Carr tweet, what that said is that Kemp does not support Burt Jones.
School districts are opting out of HB581, local leaders are feeling pressure to opt-out by March 1.
