Soul Mates
Does the romanticization of soul mates create a serial dater? Do people with highly ideal and even unrealistic standards end up self-sabotaging their relationships? I believe that is the case, and I wonder why we sell these romantic ideas to children. Think of most Disney movies that involve a romance plot. Of course they are appealing and they sell well, but surely it's wrong to overexpose children to a notion that leads to building unrealistic standards for who they should be with. "Happily ever after" is always the end of the story, but in reality it's just the beginning of getting to know someone, and teaching kids that they must merely find that perfect individual and it will be smooth sailing from then on is a cruel lie that will leave them questioning whether their relationships are worth working for.
