On July 19th, 2024, two men arrived at a gas pump with a device that allowed them to bypass the pump’s security and take as much gas as they wanted. After approximately 300 gallons of fuel were stolen over the course of 20 minutes, one of the employees noticed and called 911. The two men had rigged their van with a large fuel tank and were driving around the block. They were essentially sitting on a bomb. The officers reviewed the CCTV footage in detail and knew exactly what to do next. The suspects seemed quite clever, as there was no alteration to the pump’s system and no devices were visible until the police officer opened the car door. The entire tank to which the gas was being transferred had been rigged very professionally, as if they had been doing this for a while. They stole around $1000 worth of diesel and did $1500 worth of damage to the pump. They were charged with theft of fuel, unlawful transportation of fuel and criminal mischief of over $1000.
