Brave Daredevil Jumps Nearly 50 Feet Into Water Pit
Extreme stunts are an incredible way to feel alive and feel the rush of adrenaline. While this video is dangerous and should only be attempted by practiced individuals, the diver executes the stunt perfectly making it look easy. This video shows cliff diver, Jeremy Nicollin, as he jumps from a ladder into a tiny pool of water 46 feet (14 meters) below! It takes a lot of courage, balance, and practice in order to safely cliff dive from such a high height into a small body of water. How daring!
Cliff diving, while it requires an incredible amount of courage, does not require an incredible amount of equipment. While most extreme sports need thousands of dollars of equipment, we can see from the video that all Nicollin needs is his swim trunks, sneakers, and lots of bravery. The sport originated in the 1700s when King Kahekili, the last king of the island of Maui, would jump from Kaunolu, a 63-foot (19-meter) cliff into the ocean below. The king would jump from cliffs regularly earning him the nickname of “birdman” and making the feat into a sport to show off one’s courage and loyalty to the king. The sport later gained more popularity when Timex spokesman John Cameron Swazye hired a diver and used the sport in order to test the waterproof and durability of the watch, jumping from 87 feet (26.5 meters) off an Acapulco cliff into the water below.
While Nicollin makes the sport look easy and relatively safe, the sport remains an extreme sport and a dangerous one. Diving from 20 feet (6 meters), which is half the height that Nicollin dived from, means you will hit the water going 25 miles (40 kilometers) per hour, which is enough to break bones or cause concussions. However, experienced divers know how to land the dive without causing injury to themselves. In addition, they use the buddy system and inspect the body of water first for rocks, branches, and other obstructions that could cause injury. While Nicollin makes the dive look easy, he’s probably well practices making this stunt more amazing due to the height and how tininess of the pool below.
This extreme sport video shows cliff diver, Jeremy Nicollin, as he jumps from a ladder into a small pool of water 46 feet (14 meters) below. Nicollin dives from a height that could result in grave injury; however, pulls off the stunt easily. While Nicollin makes the stunt look easy, this dangerous extreme sport should only be attempted by practiced individuals. The stunt requires a lot of bravery and courage to jump from such a high height into such a small body of water however it was executed perfectly. How awesome!
