New body camera video shows a Goodyear police officer intervening as a man was reportedly stabbing his coworker at a grocery store last month.

Around 5 a.m. on Jan. 30, officers were called to a Safeway near Litchfield and Indian School roads regarding an assault. Witnesses told police that the suspect, later identified as Mazarion Kanneh, was stabbing another man in the back of the store.

Video shows an officer jogging to the back of the store near the pharmacy.

“Where is he? Where is he at?” the officer asks one employee. “Be careful, there are two guys,” the worker says, leading the officer to the storage area.

“Why is he attacking him?” the officer says. “I don’t know,” the worker replies. “But look, look, look, that guy!” the employee says while leading the officer to the two men.

The officer goes into the storage area with a gun drawn and finds both men on the ground, with the knife at their feet. “What are you doing? Where’s the knife at?” the officer yells. “Right there, right there. He’s attacking,” another witness says.

“I’m choking, bro,” the victim says, as Kanneh appears to have him in a headlock. The officer continues to yell at Kanneh to let the victim go.

Video shows the officer tasing Kanneh once, but it was ineffective. He got up and began running toward the officer, who deployed his taser several more times as Kanneh fell to the ground.

Two officers helped take Kanneh into custody. The victim was hospitalized with cuts to his head and face but is expected to make a full recovery.

Police say the officer was treated at the hospital for a minor injury to his hand and released that same night.

Kanneh was booked on three counts of aggravated assault, one count of resisting arrest and one count of kidnapping.
