Trump: “We’re Catching Them Left and Right – They Can’t Believe They’re Getting Caught”

February 6, 2025, Washington, D.C. – Speaking at the National Prayer Breakfast, President Donald Trump addressed the ongoing investigations into alleged corruption involving U.S. foreign aid and media funding. Trump highlighted recent revelations that hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars were funneled to media organizations, including Politico, through USAID, calling it a “terrible thing” and vowing accountability.

"Did you see what happened yesterday? Where they found hundreds of millions of dollars of the money was fraudulently given to newspapers? And I guess Politico... I hope you're enjoying your breakfast, though. They gave money to all this out of USAID. It came out—tremendous amounts of money that had nothing to do with anything. This is a terrible thing that was experienced."

Trump continued, emphasizing that those behind the alleged corruption are now facing exposure:

"We're catching them left and right. We're catching them to a point where they don’t know what the heck is going on. They can’t believe they are getting caught. And I have great respect for the people that are doing it. Elon Musk is helping us on it, and he’s pretty good—he’s pretty good."

He also called on those benefiting from foreign funds to return the money:

"Why don’t you give back the money that you’ve taken from certain countries that treat certain groups of people so horribly? Why don’t you give back the money? I think it would be a great gesture, because she takes a tremendous amount of money."

Trump’s History of Exposing USAID Corruption

Trump’s latest remarks come nearly a decade after he first called out USAID’s questionable spending practices. During a 2015 debate, he famously confronted Hillary Clinton over her ties to the Clinton Foundation and its handling of earthquake relief funds in Haiti.

"And you take a look at the people of Haiti—I was at Little Haiti the other day in Florida, and I want to tell you, they hate the Clintons because what’s happened in Haiti with the Clinton Foundation is a disgrace, and you know it, and they know it, and everybody knows."

At the time, reports revealed that while over $13 billion in donations were allocated for Haiti’s recovery after the devastating 2010 earthquake, less than 2% of the funds ever reached Haitians directly. Instead, nearly 90% of the money was funneled to non-Haitian organizations, the United Nations, and politically connected NGOs. Haitian activists have long accused the Clintons of using the disaster as a cover for money laundering, enriching their associates while leaving Haitians in desperate conditions.

Protests erupted outside Hillary Clinton’s office, with demonstrators claiming billions were stolen through the Clinton-controlled Haiti Reconstruction Commission. The scandal deepened when it was revealed that major Clinton donors were pushing the State Department for favors, jobs, and contracts while Hillary Clinton served as Secretary of State. The FBI launched an investigation into the Clinton Foundation’s activities, examining whether donations were tied to U.S. government actions.

Media Reaction: Dismissing Allegations as Conspiracy Theories

Following Trump’s remarks, corporate media outlets quickly moved to downplay the revelations. The Independent ran a piece titled "Now Trump is boosting a bogus MAGA conspiracy theory about USAID funding Politico," dismissing the claims as baseless. Rather than investigating the allegations, the article focused on ridiculing Trump’s rhetoric and linking his statements to so-called “far-right” media.

However, publicly available government records confirm that USAID and other federal agencies have funneled millions to major media outlets, including $8.2 million to Politico alone. The dismissive response from the media follows a familiar pattern—whenever establishment corruption is exposed, the press attempts to reframe the discussion as a conspiracy theory rather than addressing the evidence.

AP’s Convenient Omission

Despite the significance of Trump’s remarks on USAID’s role in media funding, the Associated Press (AP) completely ignored this in their coverage. Their article, "Trump tells prayer breakfast he wants to root out ‘anti-Christian bias’ and urges ‘bring God back’," focused solely on his religious statements, failing to mention his remarks on USAID, Politico, or media corruption.

This is a classic media tactic—when damaging revelations emerge, outlets like AP pretend they don’t exist rather than refute them, ensuring their audience never sees the full story.

As Trump continues to highlight these financial entanglements, the question remains: why is the media so desperate to dismiss these claims instead of investigating where taxpayer money is actually going?
