Commissioned replication of the iconic and infamous 1630 painting of Christ Displaying His Wounds, originally painted byGiovanni Antonio Galli. The depiction shows a pale-skinned Jesus in a three-quarter view. The lower half of his body is cloaked in a white linen cloth, which is draped over his left arm and wraps around his waist in rich folds, all embedded within a dramatic chiarscuro light effect.
Jesus stares out of the picture, intentioned to be gazing at doubting Thomas, with an unusual expression for Jesus, a disarming expression, speaking out to the unbelief, indicating to the viewer to stop and contemplate on what just happened. “Do you see?” he asks.

In the classical and reverent spirit of how the original artist approached this, I worked in many thin translucent glazes to create the characteristic depth and subtly of the paintings of this period.

Deeply special to have had the opportunity to recreate such an incredible and meaningful piece as this.
