This report looks at how President Trump lost his first trade war with Canada. In 2018, he put tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum, which had serious economic repercussions on American industries, especially agriculture.
The pain caused American workers was severe, and this forced Trump to back down and lift the tariffs and sign what became the United States Mexico Canada trade deal in 2019.
Trump tried the same tactic again—and again backed down.
