In this retrospective on the life, work, and death of Russian-American journalist Paul Klebnikov (Forbes Magazine), we hear the journalist's reporting on gang warfare, the shifting roles of oligarchs such as Boris Berezovsky, and the popularity of heroes (and antiheroes) such as Chechnya's Khozh-Ahmed Noukhayev and Boris Yeltsin. We speculate on the motives behind Paul Klebnikov's murder, and why it still matters two decades on.

Russia figures prominently here, but partly as a mirror to the United States of America, which is going through its own crisis of oligarchy. It should be remembered that historical events are patterns meant to be studied as they happen in real time.
