In mid-2018, President Donald Trump and some of his allies began using the term “Spygate” to allege that the FBI had embedded a spy in his 2016 presidential campaign for political and agenda related motives. The FBI ultimately admitted that they used informants and surveillance within the campaign, but claim it was in order to monitor and investigate potential Russian interference in the 2016 election, rather than for alternative motives.
