It seems like nearly everyone who gets married these days is living together. It seems like it is the normal thing to do, but it is actually harmful for marriage. There is no such thing as a trial marriage, a couple has to be married for the marriage to work, living together can't tell you that because there is no commitment. A commitment and God are what makes a successful marriage possible, along with treating each other with respect and love.
The sexual revolution has greatly harmed marriage, living together outside of marriage, even if the couple is engaged. People think that you are strange though if you say that it's not good to live together before marriage.
The Catholic Church overall and nearly all other Christian Churches don't teach that it is a sin to live together before marriage. The Bible says it is fornication to have sexual relations before marrige. And it is not good to even live in the same house without sexual relations before marriage, it can bring scandal from others seeing it.
Society overall is dysfunctional in relation to sex. Sex is for marriage between a man and a woman to bring about and raise a family. Anything outside of that breaks the Seventh Commandment, Thou shall not commit adultery. The answers to getting society back on track are not easy but they are simple. Society has to return to Biblical teaching to rebuild the family.
