I spent 45 years in Maine before I couldn’t take it anymore. The system targeted me relentlessly, preventing any chance of a productive life. In 2017, I woke up freezing in the dead of winter and realized it was time to leave for good. I moved to Seattle with less than $300, not knowing anyone, but knowing it had to be better than staying in Maine. And it was.
Now, years later, I see how far Maine has fallen. Under the complete control of the Democratic party, it's become a place of high taxes, failing schools, rising crime, and a collapsing quality of life. With skyrocketing housing prices, increasing crime rates, and an economy failing its residents, it’s hard to believe the state I once called home is in such a state of despair.
Despite all this, the government continues to push for higher taxes and burdens, while citizens are left to struggle. The people of Maine deserve better, and I can't help but wonder how much worse it will get. If you’re looking for a change, the Pacific Northwest offers the escape I never thought possible. No harsh winters, no mosquitoes, no black flies—just a chance to live a productive life. Escape the collapse—almost anywhere is better than Despicable Maine.
