According to Ian, some of his unused ideas ultimately made their way into the IDW comics. Such is the case with the ongoing Metal Virus saga that was intended to occur after the 300th issue. Paul Kaminski introduced the original concept that led to the development of the Metal Virus saga to capitalize on the zombie craze of the early 2010s, but was shelved to avoid competition with Afterlife with Archie. The concept was later revived when Ian was recruited by IDW Publishing to head the new series. Plans for the arc have been foreshadowed as far back as the beginning of Shattered World Crisis, with minor remarks of Dr. Eggman getting the roboticizer to operate again.[2]

Bunnie Rabbot would have been a possible key to resolving the crisis due to her being half organic. While her organic half would be consumed by the virus, her robotic parts would remain unfazed and retain some essence of her conscious will power to resist the effects."
