In Part VII of our blog series on The World of An Altar of Indignities, we’re going to be taking a brief look at the life and deeds of a man who prospered in both the Greek and Roman worlds, and who was responsible for some of the greatest building works of the age. This man was responsible for more artistic and infrastructure building projects than anyone else, other than Rome’s emperors.

This man was Herodes Atticus, and his life is a fascinating mix of kindness and patronage, fame and tragedy.
