Gaza Strip to become American territory?
By Terry A. Hurlbut
Last night President Donald Trump continued his pattern of turning convention upside down, this time diplomatic convention. When he announced a press conference with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel, few people thought much about it. They were still talking about the DOGE Blitzkrieg against the United States Agency for International Development. But at that press conference, Trump gave the world something else to talk about, that took everyone’s breath away. He proposes to take over the Gaza Strip, evacuate the so-called Palestinians from the region, destroy the infrastructure for atrocity that the Islamic Resistance Movement (HAMAS) has carefully created, and turn the region into a Middle Eastern Riviera. Now antisemitic elements in western Europe, not to mention the World Shadow Caliphate and Pretended Persian Empire, are really caterwauling.
What is the Gaza Strip?
The Gaza Strip is a narrow strip of land along the Mediterranean coast, extending north from the Wadi Al-Arish that is the treaty boundary with Egypt. Essentially it is all that remains of the territory once called Philistia that is out of Israelite/Israeli hands. Of the original Five Cities of the Philistines, only one – Gaza City – remains for the people calling themselves “Palestinian” today.
Palestine and Philistia are the same name. Emperor Hadrian coined the name Palaestina after forcibly displacing most Jews in 135, after defeating the Simon Bar Kochva Rebellion. But of course the Palestinians of today are not the original Philistines. In fact, no one has ever called himself a Philstine. In classical Hebrew, Philistine means at best an unfriendly neighbor, at worst an illegal immigrant. In Abraham and Isaac’s day, the Avvites occupied the land and were the first whom Hebrews called Philistines. Then, perhaps during the Israelite Sojourn in Egypt, the Caphthorites, sailing from Crete, displaced the Avvites. These are the Philistines who troubled the peace of the Israelites in the eras of the Hebrew Judges and Kings.
Nebuchadnezzar II (the Great) erased the Caphthorites when he conquered the “Ancient Near East” of his day. For two millennia, no one used the name Philistine again. Then a group of generals called the Mamluks established beachheads in the former Philistine territory, and built fortresses in the Holy Land, displacing the Crusaders. If any non-Jewish people have settled that land since, it’s they.
The Gaza Strip today
After the Second World War ended, the United Nations presented its famous Partition Plan to deal with British Mandatory Palestine and French Mandatory Lebanon. Of course, the Arab League refused any partition, and started a war of annihilation with the new State of Israel. Israel secured western Jerusalem and several towns along the coast, including Jaffa, Haifa and Acre. But the Gaza Strip became depopulated during that war. The Arab League boastfully said to Arabs living along the Mediterranean Coast, “Come with us, take refuge, and we’ll soon erase the Jews!” The Arabs took their advice and evacuated the region, including Jaffa. Gaza City was the only city among the original Five Cities that did not evacuate. All the other cities disappeared, if they hadn’t already.
Today the Israelis have re-founded Ashdod and Ashkelon on the sites of their original Philistine counterparts. Ekron and Gath (Qiryat Gat) remain in ancient ruins only. But Gaza City is the capital, if one can call it that, of the Gaza Strip today.
In 1993, the grand treaty that saw the permanent drawing of the Israel-Jordanian border, also saw the transfer of the Gaza Strip to something called the Palestinian Authority. But in 2007 the Islamic Resistance Movement (Arabic Harakah al-Muqāwamah al-Islāmiyyah, abbreviated HAMAS) took it over. Using generous cash and in-kind grants from Western countries, they built tunnels and a formidable arsenal of weapons. Then on October 7, 2023, they struck, committing the worst atrocities since at least the Holocaust.
What Donald Trump said
The Fourth Arab-Israeli War is on hold, after Donald Trump – even before his Inauguration – ran the negotiations for a cease-fire. Since then, a few hostages, which HAMAS took in their initial strike, have returned home. These hostages, particularly the women, have told often lurid tales of their captivity.
Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu held their press conference yesterday at about 6:50 a.m. EST.

At that press conference he made the most electrifying announcement a U.S. President has made since FDR after Pearl Harbor:
The US will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it, too. We’ll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous, unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site, level the site, and get rid of the destroyed buildings, level it out, create an economic development that will supply unlimited numbers of jobs and housing for the people of the area. Do a real job, do something different. Just can’t go back. If you [try], it’s going to end up the same way it has for 100 years.

That plan actually calls for the evacuation and relocation of all who now call themselves Palestinians. It’s a Second Diaspora, except now for Arabs, not Jews. It’s as if Nebuchadnezzar, instead of wiping out the Caphthorites, resettled them in another Babylonian dependency. And it is the complete antithesis of the fevered dream of Islam, ever since Muhammad tried to sell his vision to the Jews of Medina, and they rejected him.
And Donald Trump means business. He even said he would use American troops to accomplish the plan. Whether that means an expeditionary force, a permanent garrison, or both, remains unclear.

Kassy Akiva at The Daily Wire offered the most detailed treatment in two articles. He actually spoke of resettling 1.7 million people, which presumably is Gaza’s entire civilian population. (That’s assuming any adult Gazan qualifies as a civilian.)
I think they’ll be resettled in areas where they can live a beautiful life and not be worried about dying every day.

In answer to reports that Egypt and Jordan rejected the idea, Trump insisted they would come around. They would come around because Gaza is by now “a demolition site.”
I mean, there is hardly a building standing and the ones that are are going to collapse. You can’t live in Gaza right now and I think we need another location and I think it should be a location that is going to make people happy. You look over the decades and it’s all death in Gaza. This has been happening for years. It’s all death.
The only reason anyone would want to live in Gaza, he suggested, is they haven’t thought of living anywhere else. As an alternative, he spoke of “other wealthy nations” who might build other dwelling places for them. Gaza, as he described it, is literally a dead end.
At the same time he said Israel should not build settlements in Gaza, as they have in Judea and Samaria.
What people are saying about the Trump Gaza Strip plan
Reaction to Trump’s remarks about the Gaza Strip are as predictable as they are varied. Coverage of that reaction comes from CNN, NBC, and Reuters.
Israelis – across their political spectrum – love the idea. Netanyahu himself praised Trump’s “willingness to puncture conventional thinking,” and to think “outside the box.” Itamar Ben Gvir, who quit the government over the cease-fire, pledged to return if Trump and Netanyahu implement this proposal. Benny Gantz (a former Israeli Defense Forces Chief of Staff) offered qualified praise for Trump’s “creative, original and interesting” remarks. Yair Lapid seemed to agree in principle but clearly reserves judgment absent further details.
Egypt says they would like to see a rebuilding of Gaza, but not the relocation of its current residents. King Abdullah II of Jordan said much the same. His Majesty intends to meet with Trump on February 11. Middle Eastern specialists point out that King Abdullah already has millions of “Palestinians” in his country. Perhaps he is afraid they would revolt. Abdullah’s predecessor Hussein famously expelled many Palestinians after they did make trouble in the last century.
Saudi Arabia reaffirmed a long-standing and habitual “commitment” to “a Palestinian State” in the region. The Emirate of Qatar said Arabs have their own plans to rebuild Gaza – while its residents remain. Note that neither polity signed the Abraham Accords, as did Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates.
The usual suspects in western Europe – France, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom – all rejected any resettlement of “Palestinians” away from Gaza.
What various leaders and media personalities will not say
Reuters, CNN, and NBC speak often of provisions – they won’t say which – in “international law” against the forcible relocation of any people from their land. But they say nothing about the demands from HAMAS and their Iranian patrons concerning Israelis. These people have consistently demanded, at least, that every Jew depart the Middle East and “go back home.” “Home,” to them, would mean Spain (for Sephardic Jews), or the rest of Europe (for Ashkenazic Jews). (Many Gentiles still identify the Ashkenazim as all descending from Khazarian converts to Judaism before Khazaria vanished from the map.) What “home” would be for Jews who in fact have roots in the Middle East, they won’t say. Indeed they don’t recognize the Jews as having any connection to the Middle East at all.
Lay aside from the truth of the origins of any group of Jews. Those who call for their expulsion, suggest committing the same “war crime” of which they accuse Jews and their allies. Nor is expulsion the real remedy HAMAS and Iran seek. They seek total, complete annihilation. This informed the atrocities of October 7, 2023.
Naturally the United Nations Human Rights Office has reiterated the “war crime” canard. They ignore the perfidy of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, which directly supported HAMAS in the October 7 strike.
“Palestinians” cling to their vision
The “Palestinians,” predictably, throw around the term Naqba, “The Catastrophe,” their word for their 1949 flight. And it was a flight. They fled, though David Ben-Gurion offered to let them remain under Israeli jurisdiction. But every conventional news organ speaks of the “displacement” of “Palestinians,” as if such “displacement” were entirely involuntary.
Reuters and CNN published carefully chosen remarks from equally carefully chosen residents. Any poll, however informal, claiming adherence, without dissent, to a particular position, is suspect.
In short, Donald Trump has neatly trapped the usual suspects into embarrassing themselves. By any logical standard whatsoever, the “Palestinians” have forfeited their claim, by turning their “land” into a staging base for a war of annihilation against a neighbor. Likewise, conventional media have forfeited their claim to the trust of their readers, listeners, viewers, and other consumers, by repeatedly lying about the history of the region.
Donald Trump offered the only reasonable proposal anyone could offer. Furthermore he did it in a polite way, by contrasting the stark reality with a vision of hope for individuals striving to make a better life for themselves. All they have to do, is give up the fever dream. If they do not, they have shown that they do not want peace, no matter what they say.
One can appeal to selfishness by offering an honest trade. One cannot appeal to spite.
