Who Founded the Churches?

In today’s religious world, people often assume that Christianity is a broad, all-encompassing faith made up of various denominations. But that raises an important question: Who founded the churches? Did Jesus establish a system of independent local churches, or did Christianity splinter into competing groups over time?
The Bible is clear—Jesus personally established His churches during His earthly ministry. He did not set up a universal, invisible body, nor did He authorize men to create their own religious institutions. Instead, He built a system of independent, local churches—each with Christ as its head, each dependent upon the Holy Spirit, and each grounded in the Word of God.
This is where denominational Christianity falls short. While many groups claim to follow Christ, they trace their origins to men rather than to the churches Jesus founded. To understand the difference, we need to examine the biblical foundation of true churches and how they stand apart from the denominational systems of today.
