Parenting: A Teachable Moment

You want to raise your kids right.

They need to understand morals, values, and most importantly, consequences.

Not punishment, no, but the idea that our actions have direct reactions; what we do is in line with what happens to us.

Don’t study for a test and fail? That’s not the teacher’s fault.

Drive drunk and get in an accident, or get pulled over and lose your license? That’s not the cop’s fault.

Exercise, eat right, and live a healthy life? That’s absolutely your doing.

(Consequences can be good, and bad. We just tend to focus on the negative in life. I wonder why that is.)

My daughter caught me laughing at someone who got messed up, bad.

She tried scolding me, but I explained that sometimes, it’s OK to point and laugh at others.

And, more importantly, learn from their mistakes.
