Internal rotation of the knee is very common. It may be accompanied with pain or without. In time, it will pretty much always result in inflammation and pain and deterioration of the joint from constant improper mechanics/inflammation. A way to correct this is by strengthening the external rotators of the hips and engaging in strength exercises that help you automatize the habit of keeping your knee straight during movements.
