Slippery Places Blues | A Psalm 73 Blues Song 🎢πŸ”₯

** Psalm 73 was written by Asaph, a Levite worship leader appointed by King David (1 Chronicles 6:31-39). Asaph and his descendants wrote several psalms (Psalms 50, 73-83), often focusing on God's justice, wisdom, and faithfulness.

Psalm 73 is a deep reflection on faith and struggle-it wrestles with the age-old question: Why do the wicked prosper while the righteous suffer? Asaph nearly lost faith when he saw the arrogant living in wealth and ease. But everything changed when he entered the sanctuary of God and understood their final destiny. This psalm is a powerful reminder that God is our strength and our portion forever.

** Psalm 73 (World English Bible - WEB)
A Psalm by Asaph.

1 Surely God is good to Israel,
to those who are pure in heart.

2 But as for me, my feet were almost gone.
My steps had nearly slipped.

3 For I was envious of the arrogant,
when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

4 For there are no struggles in their death,
but their strength is firm.

5 They are free from burdens of men,
neither are they plagued like other men.

6 Therefore pride is like a chain around their neck.
Violence covers them like a garment.

7 Their eyes bulge with fat.
Their minds pass the limits of conceit.

8 They scoff and speak with malice.
They arrogantly speak of oppression.

9 They have set their mouth in the heavens.
Their tongue walks through the earth.

10 Therefore their people return to them,
and they drink up waters of abundance.

11 They say, "How does God know?
Is there knowledge in the Most High?"

12 Behold, these are the wicked.
Being always at ease, they increase in riches.

13 Surely I have cleansed my heart in vain,
and washed my hands in innocence,

14 For all day long I have been plagued,
and punished every morning.

15 If I had said, "I will speak thus";
behold, I would have betrayed the generation of your children.

16 When I tried to understand this,
it was too painful for me-

17 until I entered God's sanctuary,
and considered their latter end.

18 Surely you set them in slippery places.
You throw them down to destruction.

19 How they are suddenly destroyed!
They are completely swept away with terrors.

20 As a dream when one wakes up,
so, Lord, when you awake, you will despise their fantasies.

21 For my soul was grieved.
I was embittered in my heart.

** Lyrics - Psalm 73 Slippery Places Blues 🎸

(Verse 1)
I walked this road with weary feet,
Saw the wicked sittin' in the judgment seat.
Laughin' loud, livin' high,
While the righteous bow their heads and cry.

(Verse 2)
No chains around 'em, no burdens to bear,
They live like kings, without a care.
Their mouths spit fire, their hands bring pain,
Yet the heavens seem to bless their name.

(Chorus – Psalm 73:17-18)
Then I stepped inside the holy place,
Saw their end, saw their fate.
You put 'em down in slippery places, Lord,
They fall like dust, like a broken sword.

(Verse 3)
My heart was torn, my spirit weak,
Felt like my faith was obsolete.
I cried, "Have I walked this road in vain?"
All I found was sorrow and pain.

(Verse 4 – Psalm 73:23-24)
But You took my hand, You held me tight,
Guided me on through the darkest night.
You'll lead me home, where glory shines,
This broken heart, Lord, is Yours not mine.

(Chorus – Psalm 73:17-18)
Then I stepped inside the holy place,
Saw their end, saw their fate.
You put 'em down in slippery places, Lord,
They fall like dust, like a broken sword.

(Bridge – Psalm 73:25-26, slow and deep)
Who do I have but You, my King?
No one on earth, no diamond ring.
My flesh may fail, my heart grow weak,
But You're my strength, the hope I seek.

(Outro – Psalm 73:28, soft and soulful)
It's good for me to draw near to You,
My refuge, my rock, forever true.
I'll tell the world of all You've done,
'Cause in Your arms, the battle's won.
