The Secret Service said they’re “confident” in their security plan and as of now not making changes to it ahead of the start of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. The event followed the assassinated attempt on the party’s presumptive presidential nominee and former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. The Secret Service, FBI and Milwaukee officials held a news conference to discuss security surrounding the event that’s been designated a “national security special event” that’s required more than a year of security planning. JULY 13, 2024 FBI Briefing on Trump Rally Shooting The FBI and Pennsylvania State Police held a news conference on the shooting that occurred at a Trump rally earlier in the evening. They said the incident was an “assassination attempt” on former President Donald Trump, who suffered an injury on his right ear. The shooter was killed by the Secret Service and later identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, but a motive was not established. Also, a rally attendee was killed, and two other spectators were critically injured.
