US President Donald Trump wants to abolish the USAID Agency and fold it into the US State Department. Elon Musk has called the United States Agency for International Development a “Criminal organisation”. White House Dy Chief of Staff Miller accused USAID’s workforce of being overwhelmingly Democratic. Two senior USAID officials were removed after blocking DOGE officials from accessing the agency’s systems. DOGE personnel reportedly tried to physically access USAID headquarters in DC but were initially stopped. Sources say DOGE officials sought access to security systems, personal files, and classified information
US Senator Jeanne Shaheen called the alleged unauthorised access “incredibly serious and unprecedented”. Katie Miller, a Trump appointee in DOGE, confirmed that classified information was accessed. USAID’s website went dark on Feb 01, and its X account was taken offline, with a new page appearing on US State Department website. Trump's executive order pausing all foreign aid for 90 days has caused confusion, layoffs, and program shutdowns. Around 60 senior USAID staff were put on leave after allegedly trying to circumvent Trump’s executive order on foreign aid
