Law & Grace

One morning in the temple, the scribes and Pharisees brought before Jesus a woman caught in adultery, seeking to trap Him. Would He contradict the Law of Moses or deny His message of mercy? Instead, Jesus turned the question back on them: "He who is without sin among you, let him throw the first stone." One by one, her accusers left.

Alone with the woman, Jesus asked, "Where are your accusers? Has no one condemned you?" When she answered, "No one, Lord," He replied, "Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more."

In this powerful moment, Jesus demonstrated both grace—by sparing her life—and law—by calling her to repentance. Law and grace are not at odds. The law defines sin and calls us to a higher standard, while grace offers undeserved forgiveness. Through Jesus’ example, we see their perfect harmony.
