This week we discuss the book "Changes in the Land" by William Cronon. This book is a fairly heterodox telling of the history of the effects of human behavior, both Indian and Settler, on the ecology of the region of New England in the early Colonial period. We discuss the different ways the two groups behaved in relation to nature and how these changed over time. We take it to a place you would not expect, focusing in on the effects of finance and the system of proto-capitalism that was implemented as a matter of course during the development of the New England Colonies
