It’s a game they mark on the calendar each and every year. “We were looking forward to Broadneck. Of course, that’s a big game for us. That was highlighted on the calendar,” said Arundel High School quarterback Austin Slye. And this season the stakes are high. Early in the schedule. “This is really going to dictate seeding in playoffs, definitely,” added Slye. The Arundel Wildcats are ready for a trip to Broadneck. “We see this as a big game, But then again, it’s just another week,” said Arundel linebacker Gereme Spraggins. “(It’s a) business trip. It’s away.” “We’re really excited for the opportunity to play them. For us to be 3-0, going into their place, puts us in a good position,” said first-year Arundel Head Coach Jack Walsh. Both teams enter the matchup undefeated.  It’s been a while since Arundel was able to beat the Bruins. They haven’t done it since 2012.  But the streak just may end on Friday. The Wildcats are riding high, coming off back-to-back wins over rivals Meade and South River. In the win over Meade they overcame a 22-nothing deficit to win 26-22. “We never give up,” said Slye. “We always have a fighting chance no matter what the score is. “I think it proved to them that there is still room in this world for a tough, gritty football team and even though the sport of football is changing, tough kids usually prevail. I don’t just mean tough physically, I mean tough mentally,” added Walsh. The key for the Cats against the Bruins: “It’s our defense. Our defense has forced, I believe 10 or 11 turnovers in three weeks,” said Walsh. They’ll try to continue that trend on Friday. Kickoff at Broadneck is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.  Follow Shawn Stepner on Twitter @StepnerWMAR and Facebook
