Australia defeated Sri Lanka by an innings and 242 runs in the first test match at Galle.

3rd Day 1st Test at Galle Dt:- 1st February, 2025.
Australia defeated Sri Lanka in their own den by huge margin of an innings and 242 runs after following on.
In this match Australia won the toss and while batting piled up huge total and declared their first innings at 654 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 154 overs.
Usman Khawaja made maiden double hundred of 232 runs and Steven Smith scored his 35th test century of 141 runs and also completed ten thousand runs in Test cricket.
Jos Inglis on his debut scored 102 runs. Alex Carey remained not out on 46 runs and Travis Head contributed quick fire 57 runs.
Sri Lanka in reply were bowled out at 165 runs and conceded huge lead of 489 and Australia enforced follow on.
Only notable contribution came from Dinesh Chandimal who scored 72 runs, Captain Dhananjay de Silva made 22 runs, Kusal Mendis made 21 runs.
Matthew Kuhnemann took 5 wickets, three wickets were taken by Nathan Lyon and two wickets by Mitchell Starc.
Sri Lanka following on with huge deficit of 489 were bowled out in their 2nd innings at 247 runs in 54.3 overs before stumps on 3rd day of the first match.
This time Jeffrey Vandersay top scored with 53 runs. Angelo Mathews made 41 runs. Dhananjay de Silva made 39 runs, Kusal Mendis 34. Most of the batsmen managed to get starts but could not convert those to big scores.
Matthew Kuhnemann and Nathan Lyon took 4 wickets each. One wicket each was taken by Mitchell Starc and Todd Murphy.
Australia won the first match by an innings and 242 runs. Usman Khawaja was declared Player of the Match.
