A Little DPOW Pothole

A Dilated Pore of Winer is essentially a giant blackhead. They are most commonly seen as a single solitary open comedone on the face or upper body or an elderly person, but really can occur at any age. The bigger the DPOW, the longer it has probably been there on the body, so to makes sense, the older the patient. But DPOWs don’t discriminate! Also, DPOWs have more of an opportunity to grow quite large on older folks who are more likely to have decreased flexibility, possible arthritis, and poorer eyesight to be physically able to try to get rid of these themselves. They are benign though, and don’t have to be removed, but it’s not unusual for someone to wish that a DPOW is removed because it is concerning to them, it is uncomfortable, or because it is a source of embarassment.
