On January 29, the Crooked Creek Fire was reported near Old Fort in the area of Bat Cave Road. The preliminary cause of the fire was a fallen tree on a power line. Due to strong winds, the fire spread quickly, making it extremely dangerous, which is why people were evacuated from dangerous areas. The fire damaged one home and destroyed several outbuildings. The fire covered about 250 acres.
Winds died down overnight and humidity increased, reducing fire activity and allowing firefighters to bring the fire under control. Evacuation orders were lifted in McDowell County on the morning of January 30, allowing residents to return to their homes.

Heavy rains hit Dallas on Wednesday, January 29, and continued into Thursday morning, causing flooding and setting rainfall records.
DFW Airport recorded 2.8 inches (71 mm) of rain by midnight, surpassing the previous record of 0.93 inches (24 mm) set in 1999. By 5 a.m. Thursday, the total had reached 3.91 inches (99 mm).
Roads are flooded in several areas, including the White Rock Lake area. Some streets in Dallas and Fort Worth are closed due to flooding. Emergency services are working to extricate drivers from flooded vehicles.
