"Stop the bleeding" kits assembled
An active shooter situation can happen anywhere. Now, Brown County emergency responders are more prepared for such a scenario. On Wednesday, volunteers assembled 500 bleeding control kits to be put in every fire department vehicle in Brown County that responds to emergencies. The kits contain a trauma bandage, gauze, heavy duty tape and an ace wrap to apply pressure and stop the bleeding. Police say the kits can help save lives in more ways than one. "It allows us that time, that 30 to 60 minutes, to get our hospital systems organized, to get our EMS systems organized, to really handle a mass casualty incident,” said Lt. Don Riha with Ashwaubenon Public Safety. Police say the next step in the initiative is an educational campaign for the public.
